MODERN TIMES
EXPLANATION OF THE INSTITUTIONAL ELEMENT OF MODERN TIMES:The film "Modern Times" has been distributed many times due to its popularity, it was first distributed by United Artists in the 1930's, then by MK2 Editions and then finally by Janus Films. United Artists was created by a created by a group of actors and film makers who didn't want to rely on the big 5 to create films. Once United Artists was formed, its films were targetted to a niche audience because of its independency. The film was directed, written, produced and starred Charlie Chaplin, the cinematography was by Ira H. Morgan and Ronand Tothero, editing by Williard Nico and finally music again by Charlie Chaplin. The actors in the film included Paulette Goddard, Henry Bergman, Stanley Sandford, Chester Conklin and Charlie Chaplin. United Artists have distributed films such as Fame and Hot Tub Time Machine and Janus Films have distributed Revanche as well as other Chaplin Films. The films budget was $1.5 million and the production started in 1934 in Hollywood.
HOW THIS LINKS TO MY FILM: Due to my budget and my films abstract genre, my target audience would be a niche audience therefore mainstream distributors would not be best for my film therefore a distributor i would be looking at would be WARP Films which is an independent film company and due to my budget WARP Films would be ideal as i could use their music from their record label. Also, WARP would be a great company for my film because they produced films such as Chris Morris' Four Lions which essentially pokes fun of the media, which my film does.
ILL MANORS
EXPLANATION OF THE INSTITUTIONAL ELEMENT OF ILL MANORS: Ill Manors was distributed by Revolver entertainment and they were funded by Film London and BBC Films. The films budget was £100,000
Film London- Film London is a film company which specialises in promoting London as a presitigous film making capital. It is a "not for profit" agency which is supported by the BFI and the Mayor of London.
BBC FILMS- Only co-produces 8 films a year.
The information above illustrates that Ill Manors was an independently funded film.

HOW THIS LINKS TO MY FILM: My film would also need to be funded by companies such as the ones above to add value to the film. In addition, it would either be optimum releasing or Revolver entertainment distributing my films because they are independent film distributers.
