Artistic intention
AIM: Within this section, I'm going to be illustrating the intention of my poster in terms of what I wanted the audience to understand from viewing the poster and how I varied the posters to cater to two different audiences.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of my poster is to communicate a hybrid genre, which is a collaboration of a physical comedy and a British social realist film, through artistic means.
What did you want to achieve in terms of your poster?
The aim of my poster was to intrigue my target audience about the genre of my film. I created two posters which would communicate different things to two different audiences. For example, my poster targeted to a film literate audience communicates a "Chaplinesque", typical black and white physical silent comedy. I communicated this by adding certain artistic elements into my poster for example it is in black and white, I overlaid textured old paper and added noise on to it and finally, similarly to Chaplin's posters, the actor's names were larger the film's title. Furthermore, the poster for the teenage audience implies violence because the protagonist is staring straight at the camera. In addition the costumes such as a hooded jacket imply troublesome teens. In addition, I chose graffiti font to connote the genre of the film as well as make the audience think that these teenagers are vandals and trouble makers. I also chose red for the font to make the title of the film stand and out and to also imply some sort of violence within the film. Furthermore this poster is also in black and white to reflect the hybrid genre.
